Teaching Chinese

The China Challenge Class of 2008-2009 began with an intensive 8 week class in the summer of 2008 with introductory Chinese language instruction and classes to expand their knowledge of China's impact on the environment and the world.  They also had field trips to the Smithsonian, the Chinatown Community Cultural Center and later to Philadelphia and New York city Chinatowns to learn more about Chinese art, culture and heritage.

Academic Year Teacher (2008-2009)

Lynn Zhao

Lynn Zhao is the current Mandarin Chinese language teacher. She was born in Shanghai, China and received her B.A. from Shanghai Teachers' University and her Masters in Business Administration from the University of Baltimore, Maryland. She teaches Chinese at language schools and as a private tutor to diplomats.

Her professional background is in computer programming.

 


 

Summer 2008 Teachers

Guoli Chen

Guoli is the Mandarin Chinese language instructor. Chinese-born in the Fujian Province, she is a certificated language teacher with more than ten years of experience.


Jenifer Queen

Jenifer managed the 2008 summer program. Born and raised in Southeast DC, she is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. degree in politics and philosphy. She is a 3rd-year student at the Howard University School of Law.

 


 

2006 - 2007 Teachers

Chunrong Cai

A native Chinese teacher, Chunrong taught English to Chinese children before immigrating to the United States in 2006. She taught in 2006 and 2007.


Patrick Jordan

Patrick, who taught in 2006, is a graduate of Gettysburg College and former teacher at Gonzaga High School in the District of Columbia. He completed a law degree from Catholic University in 2007.
