H Street CDC Stands with Councilman Trayon White on the
Loss of His Grandmother

Statement of Condolence

TUESDAY, APRIL 21, 2020 (Washington, DC) – The staff of H Street Community Development
Corporation (HSCDC) add our voices in expressing profound sadness at the news of the passing the
grandmother of Ward 8 Councilman Trayon White.

Councilmember Trayon White’s grandmother Veronica Norman served the community and worked at
St. Elizabeths Hospital for 40 years.

White said that he received a call that his grandmother was at home and non-responsive. When the
Chief Medical Examiner arrived at the home, they said that they could not transport her body because
she was a positive coronavirus case.

“We stand with Councilman White and his family in the face of this devastating loss” said Ken Brewer Sr,
HSCDC CEO. “We celebrate his grandmother’s selflessness, courage and commitment to the most
vulnerable in our community.”

White said his grandmother was committed to her work at St. Elizabeths Hospital, a public psychiatric
facility. He also said his family advised her to retire and go home so many times, but she was
determined to help her patients until her last day.
